-Pastor Enoch Adeboye Bags New Appointment & Calls For Religious Unity
In a significant move towards religious unity, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called for religious unity as he bags new appointment as the patron of the Ecumenical Synod of Bishops, Archbishops, and Senior Clergy Inc. (ESBAASC).
The announcement was made during the group’s international conference, which was held from August 22–25 at the Redemption Camp in Lagos, Nigeria. The conference, themed “Religious Tolerance in Nigeria and Across the Nations of the World,” aimed to discuss the concept of religious tolerance, its challenges, and how to achieve it.
During the event, Archbishop Prof. Kehinde Olubunmi, the International Prelate and Chief Host, nominated Pastor Adeboye as the Patron and Archbishop Prof. Mary Ajisafe as the Matron of ESBAASC. Adeboye, represented by RCCG National Overseer Emeritus, Pastor Joseph Obayemi, lamented the current state of religious intolerance in Nigeria, reflecting on his youth when he fasted during Ramadan, shared meals with Muslims, and lived harmoniously among Christians, Muslims, and followers of traditional religions. He emphasized that true believers in the Creator God should choose to love and preserve life rather than react with violence.

The conference also featured other notable speakers, such as Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, a Muslim cleric, who warned that Nigeria cannot afford the devastation of a religious war. The Chairman of Ogun State PFN/CPFN, Apostle A.B. Otaru, stated that a lack of understanding and love for the Creator, along with the failures of religious leaders, are key contributors to religious intolerance. The International Secretary and Director of Administration of ESBAASC, Archbishop Prof. Williams Ozazie, reminded the audience that “God is not in violence” and that the Lord desires reconciliation with humanity.
