Speak Up!-Part 1

Dear Reader,

Welcome to this great month. I pray the peace and blessings of God will be on the increase for you and your family in Jesus’ name. This month, we will be examining Speak Up!

It is quite unfortunate that many women have suffered for so long in silence, and as such, they have continued to live unfulfilled and frustrated lives. Many things are wrong on the home front, yet they keep silent and never seek help or godly counsel. The Word says: For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up (Ecclesiastes 4:10). Therefore, are you faced with loneliness, or do you feel you are not giving your children adequate attention? Maybe your problem is finances, or it has to do with ill health or marital challenges; don’t keep it to yourself. There is no wisdom in dying in silence.Open up and give more meaning to your life. The Word says: Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14).

Also, some women fail and die untimely not because help was not available but because they refused to call for help. They probably do not want others to know what they are going through or assume that people around them should know and attend to their needs. Even the dumb call your attention by making signs of a certain sort; they communicate! That means you cannot successfully pass across any message in silence. So, there is no man on earth who can read what is in your mind or what you are going through. That is why you have to open up so you don’t die in silence! Only God is the Omniscient, the all-knowing. Even with this attribute, He still demands we open our mouths and ask. The Bible says, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7, see also Psalm 81:10). You need to speak up! Pass your message in a way that can be understood. I see help coming your way today in Jesus’ name!

Unfortunately, in the process of time, many resort to and become addicted to drugs, food, pornography, extra-marital affairs, alcohol and other vices that they feel will help them out of their predicament. Then after a period of “hiding” from the truth, something terrible happens – divorce, a police case, adultery, the disintegration or collapse of a ministry and so on. This shall not be your portion in Jesus’ name!

Let us Consider some Factors that can Hinder Many from Calling for Help:

Pride: As someone rightly said, Pride builds walls between people and humility builds bridges. The Word says: The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Therefore, note that you are not alone on this journey; somebody somewhere is also going through what you are going through right now and proferring a solution to that issue. Therefore, it is wise to connect and learn from such people. Calling for help is not a sign of weakness; it is wisdom! So, don’t give room to pride by refusing to seek godly counsel. Pride is a destroyer; it has destroyed many great destinies, so beware! The Bible says: Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).

Giving Excuses: Quit making excuses for things that are going wrong. Abigail is an example of a wise woman as recorded in the Bible (1 Samuel 25:14-28). She could have used her husband’s foolishness as an excuse not to be liberal, which would have resulted in bloodshed in her home. Instead, she opened up. The Word says: Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send. Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath withheld thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal (1 Samuel 25:25-26). Stop making excuses for things going wrong; instead, be a wise woman, take action, make the right move and seek help.

Stop Pretence: Stop covering up! Do not pretend that things are going on smoothly when they are not. Who are you deceiving? Do you want to live in deceit all your life? Pretence is what the Bible calls hypocrisy. Jesus was always against hypocrites. The Word says: Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess (Matthew 23:25).Stop consoling yourself with the fact that it is so with everybody! You will be surprised that you are the only one left, still caught in the web of pretence; others have left! Wake up and begin to take action. Be open and sincere with yourself.

Ignorance: According to Martin Luther King Jr., Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance. It is one other main reason why many women keep to themselves, dying inside! Little wonder then, the Word says, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children (Hosea 4:6). So, only the truth that you know is what can make you free. Remember that what you do not know can kill you. Inadequate information about a particular situation can pose a problem. Therefore, get knowledge.

However, to be wise woman, you need the help of Jesus. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born Again.
