TEXT: “And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only. But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.” Joshua 17:17-18
In continuation of our topic yesterday, the children of Joseph could picture the great ability of the people they are to come against in order to increase their portion of the inheritance, but they only spoke about themselves as being a great people which was in relation to number. It was Joshua in his statement in our anchor text that added that they have great power. They forgot that fact. They forgot how God had fought for them backing them up in every battle. This situation is somehow similar to the report of the ten spies sent to view the land of Canaan in Numbers 13 in that they both pictured the overpowering ability of the opposition they are to confront. However, while the ten spies verbalized their littleness and acute insignificance before the inhabitants of the land, the children of Joseph only stated the advantage of their opposition due to their possession. But hear me, child of God, anytime you exaggerate the ability of your enemy, you have indirectly belittled yours. That was why they never saw their great power.
They said the Canaanites have iron chariots, but forgot that the children of God, as God had opened the eyes of Gehazi to see in 2 Kings 6:17, have horses and chariots of fire to defend them. Child of God, you’ve got what it takes. Halleluyah!
