Making Right Choices – Part 1

Dear Reader,

Welcome to this exciting month of August. I pray that God will enlighten your path and make every crooketh way straight for you and your family in Jesus’ name! This month, we shall be examining Making Right Choices.

Choice means to pick or decide between two or more possibilities. So, God has an equal destiny of greatness for all His children (Romans 8:28-30), but our individual choices distinguish us from one another. He predestinated you and your family for glory, but your choice in life determines whether you will arrive at that predestination or not. No matter how long you live on earth, your years are broken down into months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. Therefore, whatever your assignment may be on earth to fulfil, you don’t have eternity to do so; you have only a season, so handle it well and maximise your days.

According to Zig Ziglar, Every choice you make has an end result. Whatever or wherever you are today is a product of the choices you made yesterday. Daily, you and I are confronted with choices that must be made – whether to pray or not, what to pray about, what to eat, what to wear, where to go, what to buy, what to give etc. Choices make a lot of difference between success and failure, joy and sorrow, peace and chaos, life and death, etc. So, we put this principle to work on a daily basis even as it relates to the issues of academic, career and peers.

Choice is one of the fundamental principles of the Kingdom of God. Your choice can either be right or wrong. Therefore, making the right choices leads you to the right destination, while making wrong choices can lead you to the wrong destination. Whichever one, you must accept responsibility for the choices you make.

Choice is a very powerful instrument as it relates to establishing family life, and there are certain fundamental truths we must understand about the power of choice.

We Live in a World of Choices: As a male or female; life presents choices for you to make every day. Choice of what to eat, where to live, what to wear, how to behave, what career to choose, etc. We live in a world of choices, and you must understand that there is power in your choices.

You are a Creature of Choice: God gave us the gift of choice. Just as God will not think for you, the same way God will not choose for you. It is His wish for you to choose life that you and your seed may live. The Word says: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live (Deuteronomy 30:19). This principle works in every area of life.

God Respects Your Choice: God honours the choices we make. In Genesis, God brought all the animals and every creature to Adam, giving him the choice to name all of them because He honours the choice of man. The Word says: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof (Genesis 2:19). The blind Bartimaeus heard about Jesus, and he cried, ‘Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy upon me’, but he needed to make a choice. Though Bartimaeus cried for mercy. Jesus still asked him, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ Meaning, what is your choice? Make a choice, and then I will respect it (Mark 10:51). We also have the story of the woman with the issue of blood. She has been in that condition for about 12 years until one day, she made a choice for her situation to change. She decided she must touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. She said, ‘If only I may but touch the hem of His garment, I know I shall be made whole’ (Mark 5:28). Therefore, What is your choice today? Do you want a change in your academic, career or any other area of your life? The power of choice has been given to you.

Even the Devil Respects Your Choice: The devil respects your choice and cannot reject the choices you make. For instance, when you gave your life to Jesus Christ, you automatically made your choice. You made a choice, and the devil could not say, ‘No! You can’t go yet’. He was watching you. Now you are washed in the Blood and become a child of the Almighty God. In the same way, when you make any choice today regarding any area of your life, the devil cannot resist your choice. Therefore, make the right choices that will affect your destiny positively.

However, to make right choices, you need the help of the Holy Spirit. You can only receive the gift of the Holy Spirit by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. So if you are not born-again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am born-again.

Congratulations! You are now born-again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ name!
