Maintaining Emotional Balance (1)

Dear Reader,

Happy new month! This month, you shall be marching on to glory, honour and virtue, and the joy of the Lord that surpasses all understanding shall rest upon you in the name of Jesus! In this edition, I shall discuss an important topic titled: Maintaining Emotional Balance.

Every human has emotions, and these emotions are not meant to control us but complement us. Also, we have been given the ability to put our emotions in check. Emotional balance is essential to how much we can make our lives beneficial, impactful and distinguished. Many destinies have crashed, and opportunities missed because of uncontrolled emotions. Some people are stagnated because they don’t know how to use their emotions to their advantage.

Therefore, you must understand that emotions are not evil; God created you as an emotional being, and everything He created is good. For it is written: And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good… (Genesis 1:31).

What is Emotion?

This can be defined as a strong and instinctive feeling such as compassion, love, anger, worries, pride, grief, comparison, jealousy, etc. From this definition, it is clear that we all have both positive and negative emotions. However, many people tend to show more negative emotions than positive ones. They become unnecessarily angry, show extreme signs of jealousy and pride, etc., and this has ruined great destinies.

If your life must be meaningful, you must be able to put your emotions under control, and controlling your emotions is one of the fruits of the Spirit called self-control (Galatians 5:22). So, to prove you are a child of God, who has control over his spirit, your emotions must be controlled. It is written: He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls (Proverbs 25:28). For your city to be built up, your emotions must be intact. Your emotion determines your attitude, which determines how far you go in life.

What is the Purpose of Emotions?

To make life fulfilling. Life would have been so boring without emotions. Our different emotional outburst to situations makes our everyday dealings with people interesting, and these differences help us complement one another.To enhance our worship. Emotions enhance our worship of God. Our clapping, dancing, shouting, singing, kneeling, bowing, crying, lifting of hands, etc., are expressions of our emotion of love towards Him(Psalm 149:2-3). Without that, worship would have been a boring experience.To differentiate man from inanimate objects. God created man with emotions to differentiate us from inanimate objects. Jesus once said that if we refuse to praise Him, He would raise stones to do that (Luke 19:40). This implies that our emotions bring praise to Him, and this is one attribute unique to man.

Please note that your heart is the seat of your emotions (Proverbs 4:23), and your attitude flows from your emotions. So, your words and disposition are a reflection of the state of your heart, and your heart can only be right if you are genuinely connected to Jesus. So, if you have not accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour, there is no better time than now. Please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born Again.

Congratulations! You are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
