If Truly We’re Hungry for God, No One Will Remind You To Pray – Meshach Tabat

What pushes a man to search for food and eat is not discipline but hunger. Likewise what’s responsible for our reluctance in seeking and feeding on God’s word is not lack of discipline but lack of spiritual appetite.
Having an appetite is a proof of health. When a man is sick, one of the symptoms manifested is lack of appetite, no desire for food or anything edible. At that point he is being forced to eat, he’s being motivated with lots of reasons to eat like “If you don’t eat, the drug won’t work ooo”… it seems at that point he’s being push to do that which naturally he has no desire for. Could it be that the reason we’re dragging our feet to pray and study the bible is simply because we lack this hunger and appetite for God?

The discipline we need draws it’s strength from hunger. There are days I return from school at night, so tired and weak but as long as that tiredness is accompanied by a great hunger, I’ll find the strength to move around looking for an opened shop just to find something to eat.
Have you been hungry to the point you can’t even sleep at night? Can we see how God in His wisdom has hidden spiritual truth is some physical experiences?
If truly we’re hungry for God, no one will remind you to pray, no one will force you to study the bible just as no one needs to remind you to have your 3-square meal a day.
We must stop looking at how to improve our discipline first but how to cultivate a hunger and excitement for God.
