Discovering Your Potentials-Part 1

Dear Reader,

Welcome to this exciting month of November. I pray it shall be a month of divine surprises for you and your family in Jesus’ name. This month, we shall be examining Discovering your Potentials.

What is potential? According to the Cambridge Dictionary, potential can be defined as someone’s ability to develop, achieve or succeed. So, we must realise that there are inherent abilities domiciled in every living creature waiting for expression to become who God want you to be. The Word says: For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:19). According to Joyce Meyer, “Potential is a priceless treasure, like gold. We all have gold hidden within us but must dig to get it out.” Therefore, as a teenager, discovering your identity is the utmost approach to maximising your potential. Your identity is basically who you are, so it answers the question, who am I? Everyone is created with a unique identity. Manufacturers all over the world design products with their names on them to signify the authenticity of the product. Every product has its unique name, essence of creation and its functionalities. Therefore, you were created with a unique name- your name; a reason for your creation- your purpose and your range of functionalities- your potential. So, no two persons have the same identity; everyone is unique in one way or the other.

To Discover your Potential, Please Note the Following:

Self-Discovery: However, the first step to living a life of impact and fulfilment is to discover yourself; until you know who you are and your potential, you may never live up to your highest capabilities and may die without achieving what you are truly capable of and using your gifts to bless the world. God has given you the potential to become what He has ordained you. So, it is your responsibility to discover your potential and use them to create your world. Everyone has some unique abilities, skills, talents and gifts that can place them before Kings if they utilise these potentials effectively. Therefore, your potential is the tool with which you create value for your world, build your dreams and create wealth for yourself. So, living life without understanding your potential can be likened to wasting your entire time on earth, which I pray shall not be your portion in life in Jesus’ name!

Right mindset: Your mindset simply refers to the way you think, and the way you think can dictate the level of success you achieve all through life. The Word says: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee (Proverbs 23:7).

Here are some Mind-set to Avoid as a Teenagers:

·      I am too young to make a difference. The Bible recorded a King who started ruling at the age of 8. The Bible says: Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years (2 Chronicles 34:1). So you are not too young to discover your potential and start reigning.

·      It does not matter whether I work hard or play hard; I will still succeed. This kind of mindset is not true. A typical example is sport; the winners of the Olympic Games practice every day for four straight years just to prepare for their victory. Therefore, success is NOT accidental BUT intentional.

In conclusion, life is an individual journey, and God has given us the potential for direction and speed in accomplishing our tasks in grand styles. But the choice is left to you to either discover and develop it or let it be dormant. The Word says: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live (Deuteronomy 30:19).

However, to maximise your potential, you need to surrender to Christ. If you are not born-again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born Again.

Congratulations! You are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace, in Jesus’ name!
