WHICH WAY LORD?
TEXT: JEREMIAH 10:17-25
KEY VERSE: “O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (JEREMIAH 10:23).
“Guide me, O thou great Jehovah! pilgrim thro’ this barren land; I am weak, but thou mighty, hold me with thy powerful hand”. These are the words of P.W. Williams. These words should proceed daily out of the mouth of anyone who wants a stress-free life.
God made man a free moral agent, giving him the ability to choose for himself. But God says that the way of man is not in himself and he alone cannot direct his own steps. From the Bible, we see choices made by different people which in turn brought great calamity on them. For David, he chose to stay back while the battle was going on; Saul chose not to wait for Samuel before offering the sacrifice. Judas chose to betray the Saviour; Solomon chose to marry strange women amongst others. We know the consequence that befell them. For some, the choices they made earned them an eternal damnation in hell while few others, by God’s grace, were able to correct their costly mistakes.
How do you make your choice? Do you just do so by instinct or maybe like Solomon your friends are your compass. “The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue is of the Lord” (Proverbs 16:1). There is the need to seek for God’s approval in any decision we take in our lives in order to smile at the end of the road. Let God direct you as you go out today and for the rest of your life. Make this your constant cry: “which way Lord?” and you’ll hear a voice saying to you “…this is the way, walk ye in it…” (Isaiah 30:21).
Seeking directions from God shows how important we place Him in our lives. Until when that phrase becomes our daily confession, we are yet to be led by our Creator. Let Him be your Guide.
