A MORE PERFECT WAY

TEXT: LEVITICUS 16:20-34.

?KEY VERSE: “For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD” (LEVITICUS 16:30)._

Sin is man’s greatest challenge on earth. It separates man from God. Sin enslaves and no one can on his own free himself from it. The more man attempts to pull himself out of sin, the more he sinks into the abyss of helplessness. To be free from sin therefore, would require the intervention of superior power; the One who created man, who alone knows how to disentangle him from the tyranny of evil and wickedness.

God took the initiative with the children of Israel when He appointed Aaron to be the high priest. His job was essentially to make atonement for their sins. To do this, a day was set aside each year for him to enter into the most holy place in the temple, make animal sacrifices to cleanse his own sin and the sin of the people. The animal sacrifices only covered sins for a short period but could not cleanse it indefinitely. So, every year, the entire nation stood still to allow the high priest repeat his ritual of atonement under very strict rules. Without doubt, the old system of atonement or covering sins, was grossly limited and did not provide a permanent solution to man’s sin problem.

Whilst Aaron’s animal sacrifices only succeeded in temporarily covering the sins of people, Christ’s sacrifice of Himself brought total cleansing from sin, once and for all. While Aaron made long preparations before appearing before God, we can now come boldly to His throne to obtain mercy and grace in time of need. Of course, now, we do not just prepare our body but our hearts as we approach God in prayer of faith through Christ.

As many as are willing can have their sins forgiven and their guilt removed as they confess and forsake their sins; accept Christ as Lord and Saviour and place their trust in the spotless Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the whole world.

MEDITATION

Deeper revelation about the precious blood

The blood of Jesus is the only blood referred to as precious in the Bible, I Peter 1:19. Observe that in the text, blood is needed for reconciling the holy place, the tabernacle, the altar, the priests and the people without which the blood sacrifice is unacceptable, null and void before God (vv20,33,34). How practically relevant to me and you is the blood of Jesus?

1. Justice on sin
   All those objects and humans are inherently sinful to the Holy God, and worthy of destruction or capital punishment. There is need for a qualified and sinless human substitute to receive the capital punishment. Since the blood is the life of man (Leviticus 17:11), justice on sin is only satisfied when precious blood is shed. Note that the blood on its own is not sufficient until it is shed on the altar. Any religion without the blood of Jesus is the religion of Cain and it is not acceptable to God.
2. Garment of sinlessness Revelation 7:14.
   In the OT, the blood of animals only covers sin, while in the NT, the blood of Jesus cleanses sin both judicially and experientially because the blood of animals can never take away sin, I John 1:9, Hebrews 10:4.
3. Justification from sin Romans 5:9.
   Justification is deeper that forgiveness. It means that, through the blood of Jesus, God sees you as someone who never sinned. You are a saint before God. You are declared just.
4. Judgement on Satan Revelation 12:11. In warfare against Satan and his host, the blood of Jesus is an invincible weapon. Have you been using it?
5. Jewels of sonship Acts 20:28.
   It is the blood of Jesus that purchased you from slave market of sin and Satan and now exalted you to be God’s child with all the privileges attached. Start seeing yourself as a child of God.?
6. Journeying with sound conscience Romans 3:25.
   You can now walk along with the Holy Son of God without guilty conscience because the blood of Jesus has totally appeased God and make Christ happy with you.
7. Juicing with the Saviour I Corinthians 10:16.
   With the blood of Jesus, you can now sit at the same table with Jesus and dine with Him.
   Note Enjoying those privileges is dependent on falling at the feet of Jesus in total surrender and faith in the blood of Jesus Romans 3:25.
   Q Which of these ? are you actively engaging or trusting the blood of Jesus for?
   Lord, I praise you for your shed precious blood with multipurpose spiritual and physical benefits?
   Lord, I hereby put my confidence and faith in the blood of Jesus for victory over sin, heart purity and pure conscience?
   Lord, help me never to forget and actualise all these benefits of the blood of Jesus?
   Lord, I hereby confront and destroy COVID-19 virus in the land with the precious blood of Jesus.?
