Covenant Bags Excellence in Quality Entrepreneurship Education Award

Barely a week after Covenant was ranked among world-class universities by Times Higher Education (THE), the University attained another feat as it received “Excellence in Quality Entrepreneurship Education” award.

The award, presented to the University on Monday, October 1, 2018 by The Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria (TEEiN), was in recognition of Covenant’s contributions to entrepreneurship education in Nigeria.

The convener, Mr. Bola Adeboye, noted that the essence of the award, themed: “Power Youth, Creating Wealth through Entrepreneurship”, was to recognise leaders who have contributed to the development of entrepreneurship and employment in Nigeria.

Adeboye affirmed that entrepreneurship was the panacea to the Nigerian economic challenges, adding that youths were not lazy but only needed empowerment. “Tonight, we are here to celebrate those who have been contributing to entrepreneurship in order to encourage them to do more and others to emulate them,” he explained.

It would be recalled that Covenant pioneered entrepreneurship education in Nigeria and have been awarded excellence at sundry times, including “2017 Nigerian Media Award for Employment and Job Creation” by Gidijobs, an online employment solution organisation.

TEEiN is a social enterprise established to champion the cause of youth entrepreneurial skill development, promote rural women empowerment, improve community health care delivery and support the entrepreneurial education of the Nigerian child.

The event was graced by Nigerians from all walks of life, including Dr. Frederick Obateru Akinruntan, CON, the Olugbo of Ugbo Land; the President, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson; Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatosin Ogundipe and Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, represented by his deputy, among others.
