One acid test of Unity is Persecutions . Just as gold shines under fire and brings out it’s true colour , persecution should do same to the church. The early church showed incredible unity in the face of scourging persecution.
Acts 4:21, 23 -24
21. So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
23. And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is.
The persecution that was meant to tear them apart brought them into unity, they prayed in one accord, rather than griping and complaining.
Again if you take these scriptures and juxtapose it with the current trend of events in the body of Christ, there is a wide gap. It’s disheartening and appauling to see believers and even pastors rejoicing when a church is facing severe persecutions, many go to the extent of tearing down other ministers of the gospel on their pulpit. These ought not to be brethren. We cannot overemphasize the fact that the church needs a revival of the spirit of unity. We have simply made ourselves laughing stocks for the devil and his agents. We just can’t continue this way !! We need Unity . Spirit empowered unity , not a carnal gathering of people in the name of an association but spirit motivated unity with Jesus as the focus, not a person, a church or a denomination!
