[TRANSCRIBED] HOW TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

David: Welcome to today’s podcast session. I’m your host, David, and I’m joined by Emmanuel, a director at Flyte Technologies and Solutions Limited. Emmanuel, thanks for being here!

Emmanuel: Thanks for having me, David.

David: Let’s dive right in. Can you tell us about yourself and how you got into software development?

Emmanuel: Sure. I’m Emmanuel, one of the directors at Flyte Technologies and Solutions Limited. I found my passion for software development by destiny, not by design. I didn’t have a dream to be a software developer, but my biology teacher in secondary school saw potential in me and encouraged me to pursue computer science. I applied for a scholarship and got selected, which led me to study computer science. I fell in love with it and never looked back.

David: That’s fascinating. What were some of the challenges you faced while learning software development?

Emmanuel: The challenges were numerous, but the biggest one was the time and dedication required. I had to spend long hours learning and practicing, but my passion kept me going. I also faced financial challenges, as my parents couldn’t afford a system for me to practice on. But I found ways to overcome those obstacles.

David: You’ve transitioned from being a software developer to an entrepreneur. Can you walk us through that journey?

Emmanuel: Yes, I had natural entrepreneurial traits, even before I became a software developer. I started small, writing software for schools and selling it. I then evolved into system analysis and started my own business. I faced challenges like trust issues with partners and navigating policies and tax issues, but I learned from those experiences.

I mean, from just studying what organizations are doing, it was easy for me to evolve because I not only had software development skills but also learned how to understand systems, analyze them, and find tech solutions for challenges. This made it easy for me to see that I could walk with partners and start our business together. We started as social developers, and I also tried freelancing, which I was very successful at. This gave me the confidence to stand on my own.

David: What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an entrepreneur?

Emmanuel: The biggest challenge was trust. I knew I couldn’t do it alone, and I had to work with people I trusted. However, trusting people who may not respond well to success or challenges was difficult. Other challenges included navigating policies and tax issues, but trust was the biggest one.

David: What advice would you give to a young person looking to pursue a career in software development or entrepreneurship?

Emmanuel: Find your passion and pursue it. Don’t just focus on making money; focus on solving problems and creating value. Balance your passion with a career, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Believe in yourself, derive confidence from your abilities, and have faith in a higher power (God)

David: Thanks for sharing your inspiring story with us, Emmanuel.

Emmanuel: Thank you, David. It was a pleasure.
